Description: This is a study on the use of carbon fiber as the heating element for composite products. Some of the benefits of using the carbon filament are that it can be left in the part, it heats from inside out rather than outside in as with an oven or heat blanket, multiple layers can be used for more even heating, the filaments will be structural when cured and the overall energy required to heat a product will be much less than in an oven.
This test panel was made with liquid resin and cured in about an hour and a half. At an average power output of around 100 watts it reaching uniform temperatures of 150 degrees Fahrenheit with two hot spots that climbed to nearly 300F at times.
